Are we ready to take our cartooning skills to the next level?
In this new 3D cartooning class, young cartoonists will take their skills to the next level challenging themselves how to draw characters and objects in 3D perspective. Participants explore how to add light and shadow from a fixed light source to give their artwork depth and form—bringing their characters to life instead of leaving them flat!
Please see illustrated examples I drew to demonstrate the perspective techniques I will teach in class. On the left is an example comparing a cartoon dinosaur drawn in 2D vs. 3D perspective. Below and left is a muscle car turned in perspective to create a sense of depth.
On the right, we'll figure out the mystery behind Foreshortening. How to draw an object positioned closer to the camera relative to everything else in the picture. Just as you see with the girl using her smart phone to take a selfie. Or, how about a snarling raptor leaping up at the camera bearing its great big teeth...Raaar!
Artists also get a boost in storytelling abilities creating a fun comic book project showcasing their growing talent and imagination. Now that they’ve gone pro, it’s time to move beyond Intro to Cartooning and dive even deeper into the world of visual storytelling. See you all in class soon:)
Mr.Patrick's Cartooning & Comic Book 2 classes are offered during the fall, winter, and spring sessions. Each class meets once a week for one hour, over a period of 8–10 weeks (depending on holidays).
